Hi!

I'm Alison, a homeschooling mom, lifestyle blogger, yoga instructor, and Long Beach native sharing our family's adventures in Southern California.

This blog has grown right alongside me over the years. What started as a place to share my adventures in fitness, food, and travel has evolved into a space where I document our family's everyday moments from homeschooling and motherhood to family-friendly adventures, local Southern California guides, travel inspiration, and the little things that make this season of life so special.

Whether you're looking for homeschool encouragement, pregnancy and motherhood tips, the best parks and family activities, or ideas for your next getaway, I hope you find something here that inspires you and makes life just a little easier.

Thanks so much for stopping by, I'm so happy you're here!

Feel free to say hello or shoot me a note any time — I love connecting with fellow moms, homeschoolers, and adventure seekers :)

Our Kindergarten Homeschool Curriculum

Our Kindergarten Homeschool Curriculum

We’re a few weeks into our second year of homeschool and I’m feeling really good about the year ahead! While we aren’t doing Farm School like we did in TK, we’re trying out a hybrid situation that helped put my mind at ease as we start Callie’s Kindergarten year. I wasn’t ready to give up homeschooling entirely, but definitely felt nervous about how I was going to manage it through a fresh postpartum and newborn (+ toddler) season.

For the days she’s at home and with me, here’s what we’re using for each subject (and how we’re using it):

ENGLISH/LANGUAGE ARTS (ELA)

  • Logic of English - We started Foundations A towards the end of our TK year and continued through June. Took a little break in July and picked right back up when school started in August. We’ve started working through the first few “readers” and I can tell Callie is getting really excited to read more!

  • Handwriting Without Tears - I’ve had this recommended by several homeschool moms as well as our HST and have just started practicing with it — so far, so good!

  • Library books galore! We frequent our local library and I utilize the hold/reservation system often. We can never have enough books on hand to read through. Find some of our favorite Read-Alouds here.

MATH

  • We are given weekly math work through our hybrid program so I’m still getting familiar with the curriculum (mainly from TPT resources).

  • I’m also planning to use IXL to supplement the curriculum and make sure we meet/surpass all of our standards for the year.

  • I’ve also had my eye on Singapore Math for a bit and might take on their Dimensions curriculum if I feel like we need to add anything else (TBD).

  • Games & manipulatives. Our charter school has an awesome library with math manipulatives and games I like to borrow. Callie has been really into cards lately so I’m looking for more ways to teach and incorporate math through games.

SCIENCE

  • I’m working to align with our hybrid program’s science curriculum as much as possible (TPT: Little Science Thinkers) but also plan on our science being a combination of things including

  • Generation Genius - an online subscription program we have access to through our charter school, and

  • Other various living books and unit studies

SOCIAL STUDIES

  • Stories in History - We are using their My Story Begins workbook and loving it so far!

  • Again, we’re planning to align with our hybrid program’s social studies curriculum as much as possible (TPT: Little Social Studies Thinkers)

Overall, we’ve been keeping our lessons steady but light, which feels just right as we head into the final weeks of my third pregnancy. Baby could arrive any time in the next few days or weeks and I feel like we’ve got a solid foundation for the learning to continue and thrive!

Do you have any homeschool or curriculum favorites? Let me know, I always love learning about more!
